About us

We, Betina and Albert, responsible for managing the Tropical Island House, will do our utmost to make your trip as enjoyable as possible. Betina is Carioca (resident of Rio de Janeiro) and Albert half Dutch half Porteño (resident of Buenos Aires). We have both traveled extensively around the world, but especially in Brazil and Argentina, and enjoy good food in nice restaurants and spend the night in cozy small-scale hotels.

We live in a beautiful location in Rio (Flamengo) where we rent out a 430 ft2 suite with a private bathroom. You can also use our roof terrace (with a small swimming pool) and enjoy the beautiful view of Cristo Redentor and the beach of Botafogo. The apartment is a 5-minute walk from the metro.

We are happy to help you with tips to prepare your trip and of course we are ready for you if you need anything during your stay. Betina speaks Portuguese, German and good English fluently. Albert is fluent in Dutch, English and Spanish. The Tropical Island House has been in the hands of Betina´s family for years and we also stay there regularly to escape the daily bustle. We hope that our guests will feel just as comfortable there as we do!!

QUESTIONS

From the center of Rio de Janeiro you arrive within an hour and a half by car (via Avenida Brasil and the BR 101 Rio-Santos ). In case you don’t have a car, we can contact you with a reliable taxi. In Itacuruçá , Carlinhos (the landlord) crosses you by boat in 5 minutes to the house.
We ourselves are not present in the house of the island, but you will be perfectly attended by the landlords ( Carlinhos and Paulina) who are taking care of Tropical Island House for more than thirty years. They can do the cooking, cleaning and take you around with the boat. These services are not included in the rent. We do live in the apartment in Flamengo so we may cross each other when using the Suite.
